Frequently Asked Questions

Go to FAQ
  • What types of mobility issues do VELA chairs address for veterans?

VELA chairs are designed to assist veterans with a wide range of mobility challenges, including those resulting from musculoskeletal injuries (e.g., back pain, knee issues), chronic pain, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and conditions that cause fatigue or balance problems. Our chairs provide stability, support, and power-assisted movement to help you regain independence in daily activities.

  • How does a VELA chair differ from a standard wheelchair or mobility scooter?

VELA chairs offer unique features that set them apart. Unlike traditional wheelchairs, VELA chairs provide a stable, ergonomic seating solution with electric lift capabilities, allowing for easy transitions to standing. Their compact design and smooth-gliding wheels enable effortless movement within the home, and the adjustable height allows you to comfortably engage in activities at various levels (e.g., cooking at a counter, working at a desk). They are designed for active use within the home, promoting independence and participation in daily life.

  • What chairs are best for limited mobility?

For individuals with limited mobility, the VELA Chair is a great option. Its design focuses on providing support, enhancing mobility, and promoting independence. Its adjustable height, secure brakes, and ergonomic design facilitate easier movement and transitions.

  • How can I determine if I am eligible for VA funding for a VELA chair?

Eligibility for VA funding for mobility aids typically depends on your service-connected disability status and a medical need determined by a VA healthcare provider. We recommend contacting your local VA medical center or a VA benefits counselor to discuss your specific situation.

Our Quality of Life Experts can also provide guidance on the general eligibility criteria and help you understand the process.

  • Can VELA help me with the VA application paperwork?

While we cannot complete the official VA application forms for you, our team can provide significant assistance. We can help you understand what documentation is required, guide you on where to submit forms, and offer support in communicating with the VA regarding your mobility aid request. Our goal is to make the process as clear and straightforward as possible for you.
